When you have a set of hits from your search, you can do the following:
- download one or more sequences into individual Sequence windows
- download one or more sequences into individual sequence files
- download MEDLINE abstracts as text files
- download MEDLINE abstracts cited in sequence annotations.
1. Select the required sequences in the Matches panel, by clicking or shift-clicking.
A list of document names is displayed in the Docs panel.
2. Select the sequences that you want to extract by clicking or shift-clicking on the entries in the Docs panel.
3. Select the To Desk button.
The selected sequences will appear on the desktop in individual sequence windows.
TIP: Instead of using the To Desk command, you can download a single sequence just by double-clicking on the hit.
1. Select the required sequences in the Hits panel, by clicking or shift-clicking.
2. Select the sequences that you want to extract by clicking or shift-clicking on the entries in the Docs panel.
3. Select the To Disk button.
A dialog box is displayed, enabling you to choose a folder in which to store the sequence files.
4. To create a new folder, select the New button and type in a name.
(In the older-style dialog box, select the create new folder checkbox.)
5. Select Choose.
Each sequence is saved to its own file. The file is named using the Document ID number of the sequence. This number appears at the top of the summary details for the sequence, if you list them in the lower text panel.
MEDLINE abstracts often contain a listing of associated sequences from within the Entrez database. This information will appear at the end of the MEDLINE abstract information.
1. Select the required hits in the Hits panel, by clicking or shift-clicking.
A list of document names is displayed in the Docs panel.
2. Select the abstracts that you want to extract, by clicking or shift-clicking on the entries in the Docs panel.
3. Select theTo Disk button.
A dialog box is displayed, enabling you to choose a folder in which to store the abstract files.
4. To create a new folder, select the New button and type in a name.
5. Select Choose.
Each abstract is saved to its own file. The file is named as the MEDLINE ID number.
If you have extracted a sequence that has a MEDLINE reference, you can retrieve the MEDLINE abstract directly from the Annotation window of the sequence.
1. Select the Annotation View tab. The Annotations window is displayed.
2. Scroll through the annotations and identify the MEDLINE reference.
3. Double-click on the reference.
MacVector extracts the MEDLINE reference from the Entrez database, and the abstract is displayed in a new window.
5. Choose File | Save As.. to save the abstract as a text file.
