Enzyme files

Enzyme files contain a list of enzymes, and details of the recognition site they require for cleaving a sequence.

Restriction enzymes (for cleaving nucleic acid sequences), and proteolytic enzymes (for cleaving amino acid sequences), are stored in separate files. MacVector is supplied with several enzyme files. The restriction enzyme files are a mirror of the REBASE database of restriction enzymes and are split out into separate files per supplier. This enables you to choose a particular file to suit the supplier that your lab uses.

You can edit restriction enzyme and proteolytic enzyme files. MacVector enables you to:

- select a subset of enzyme entries and save the selection for use with the restriction enzyme or proteolytic enzyme analyses

- delete existing enzyme entries from the file

- change the data for existing enzyme entries

- add new enzyme entries to the file.

- create new files of enzymes.

For MacVector 18.7 and later Restriction Enzyme files are now stored in each user's Home folder (~/Library/Application Support/MacVector/Restriction Enzymes). This is now the default location. When you start MacVector if this folder does not exist then the latest copies are copied into this location. When a new version of MacVector is released then the latest copies of the files are copied.
