Keyboard Shortcuts

MacVector has a variety of keyboard shortcuts to help the experienced user access functions quickly.

Many menu selections can be performed by a command key combination. Following the standard Macintosh convention, these are noted on each menu to the right of the item. For example, if you look on the Edit menu, beside the 'Cut' item there is the notation 'Command-X'. This means that holding down the command key and pressing X is equivalent to using the mouse to select the Cut item from the Edit menu.

Some functions are only available via a keyboard shortcut - there is no menu equivalent.

The 'Command' key is the key with the Apple logo and the command clover leaf symbol on it. Some people call it the Apple key.

The 'Option' key is either labelled 'option' or 'alt', depending on your keyboard.

Another example is [CMD] + [OPTION] + [c] which will copy the reverse complement of any selected sequence to the clipboard.

In the various line graph result windows, the following shortcuts can be used:

TO NAVIGATE in the graphical plots results window

• To magnify a selected region, click and drag in the window
• To return to the whole plot, double-click anywhere in the window
• To zoom in, press the Up-arrow key (or Command and + keys) to zoom by a factor of 2, or press Shift+Up-arrow to zoom to individual residues
• To zoom out, press the Down-arrow key (or Command and - keys) to zoom by a factor of 2, or press Shift+Down-arrow to zoom all the way out
• To shift to the right, press the Right-arrow key to shift 10% to the right, or press Shift+Right-arrow to shift 80% to the right
• To shift to the left, press the Left-arrow key to shift 10% to the left, or press Shift+Left-arrow to shift 80% to the left.
• Up Arrow or Command-'+' zooms in 2-fold
• Down Arrow or Command-'-' zooms out 2-fold
• Shift-Up Arrow or Shift-Command-'+' zooms in to the maximum amount, so that the sequence's individual residues can be seen
• Shift-Down Arrow or Shift-Command-'-' zooms out to the maximum amount, so that the entire sequence range can be seen. (This is the same as double-clicking the mouse in a blank section of the window.)
