In addition to editing and analyzing sequence data, MacVector enables you to designate functional labels for regions within the sequence, which can be used for future reference. MacVector displays these labels, or features, in the Features Tab view in the main window, and saves this information with the sequence. Because features are associated with actual locations within the sequence, MacVector will automatically track any changes in a feature's position that result from editing operations on a sequence. MacVector conforms to the Genbank Feature table nomenclature and only allows the creation of features according to the latest GenBank release. You can see the latest document on the NCBI's site detailing these:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/collab/FT/Whenever you select a feature, then the sequence in the Single Sequence editor is also selected. You can also select features in the Map view of the Align To Reference and the Contig Editor.
To select a single feature in a multi segmented feature hold down the OPTION key whilst clicking on the feature.
You can increase the performance of the Map view for large sequences with the Smart Layout setting.
You can easily export a map shown in the Map view.
Automatically display restriction sites, ORFs and missing features on your sequence.
