MacVector will automatically scan DNA sequences for various features whenever you open a sequence. To control what is shown go to EDIT | SCAN DNA. All displayed features can be easily directly annotated by right clicking or double clicking to open in the Symbol editor.
Every sequence will show restriction enzyme recognition sites that are set in your restriction enzyme file. Note that unique sites are shown in red and sites with two or more locations are shown in blue.
Please note that in MacVector 15 and earlier versions this was called Automatic Restriction Analysis
DNA sequences will be scanned for open reading frames that may be coding regions. Double click a ORF to open the Features Editor and permanently annotate your sequence with a CDS feature showing the open reading frame.
DNA sequences will be scanned for missing features/annotation against a curated library of annotated fragments. This uses the Auto Annotation tool, however, it is done transparently and automatically whenever you open a new sequences. Double click a feature to open the Features Editor and permanently annotate your sequence with the missing feature.
You can store your own primer sequences in the Primer Database. Sequences will be automatically scanned against this database and primer binding sites will be displayed.
